Privacy Policy
In short: there are no accounts. Your study progress stays on your device. Purchases are handled by Apple or Google through RevenueCat, and we use Google Firebase Analytics to see how the app is used in general. We don't show ads, we don't collect your advertising ID, and we don't sell your data.
This policy explains what information the Australia Citizenship Test app ("the app", "we", "us") handles, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the app on iOS and Android.
1. No accounts
You don't need to sign up or log in. We don't ask for your name, email address, phone number or any other contact details in the app.
2. Information stored only on your device
The app stores the following on your device, using a local SQLite database and the device's standard preferences storage (SharedPreferences on Android, UserDefaults on iOS):
- Your study progress: answers to practice questions, quiz and test attempts, and flashcards.
- Your settings: the test date you enter, practice days, reminder time and whether reminders are on.
- App state, such as whether you have finished onboarding and when you were last asked for a review.
We don't receive this information. It is deleted when you uninstall the app. You can also clear your study progress at any time in Settings → Reset Progress.
3. Purchases (RevenueCat, Apple and Google)
PRO purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see or store your payment card details.
We use RevenueCat, Inc. to check your purchases and unlock PRO. For this, RevenueCat receives:
- A random, anonymous app user ID created on your device. It is not linked to your name or email.
- Your purchase history for this app: the products you bought, transaction dates, prices, currency and store country.
- Basic technical information: device type, operating system version, app version and IP address.
- The Firebase app-instance identifier described in section 4, so purchase events can be matched with anonymous usage analytics.
- On iOS only, an Apple Search Ads attribution token from Apple's AdServices framework. It tells us whether the app was installed after tapping an Apple Search Ads ad. It doesn't include your advertising identifier (IDFA) and doesn't identify you.
We use this information only to provide and restore your purchases, prevent fraud, and understand how many people subscribe and which of our App Store campaigns work. RevenueCat also sends purchase events (for example, a trial starting or a subscription renewing) to our Google Firebase Analytics project.
4. Usage analytics (Google Firebase Analytics)
We use Google Firebase Analytics, provided by Google LLC, to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. It collects:
- App interactions: for example, screens viewed, features used, tests started and finished, the paywall shown and purchases made.
- Your onboarding answers and plan: the options you pick during onboarding (for example, what you're most worried about for the test), whether you have PRO, and which plan you chose. We don't send the test date you enter.
- Identifiers: an app-instance identifier generated by Firebase, and the anonymous RevenueCat app user ID described in section 3, used as the analytics user ID. Neither is linked to your name, email or advertising identifier.
- Diagnostics: app sessions and updates, and a note when something fails to load (for example, if the plans or a test can't be shown).
- Device and app information: device model, operating system and version, language and app version.
- Approximate location: country, region or city, estimated from your IP address. We don't collect precise (GPS) location.
We do not collect the advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android). The app has no ads, and we don't use analytics data to track you across other companies' apps or websites. Google keeps analytics data only for the retention period set in our Google Analytics settings, then deletes it automatically.
5. Notifications
Study reminders are local notifications. Your device schedules them for the days and time you choose, and no server is involved. You can turn them off in the app's Settings or in your device settings at any time.
6. Listen mode (text-to-speech)
Listen mode reads questions aloud using your device's built-in text-to-speech engine. The app doesn't use the microphone or record audio. On iOS, speech is generated on your device. On Android, it's handled by whichever speech engine you've chosen in your device settings (usually Google's), under that provider's privacy policy.
7. App reviews
The app may occasionally show Apple's or Google's built-in review prompt. Apple or Google handles any rating or review you submit, under their own privacy policies.
8. Summary table
| Data | Where it goes | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Study progress and settings | Your device only | Run the app |
| Anonymous app user ID and purchase history | RevenueCat, Apple or Google, and Google Firebase Analytics | Provide and restore purchases, and measure subscriptions |
| Apple Search Ads attribution token (iOS) | RevenueCat | Measure our App Store campaigns |
| App interactions, onboarding answers, device and app info, app-instance ID, approximate location, diagnostics | Google Firebase Analytics | Understand usage and improve the app |
| Payment details | Apple or Google only | Payment processing (we never receive them) |
9. App Store privacy label
Our App Store "App Privacy" section lists: Purchase History, User ID, Device ID, Coarse Location, Product Interaction and Other Diagnostic Data. All of it is not linked to your identity and not used to track you. These correspond to the anonymous purchase, identifier, location, interaction and diagnostic data described above.
10. Sharing
We don't sell or rent your information. We share it only with the service providers listed above, for the purposes described, or when the law requires it.
11. International transfers
RevenueCat and Google may process information in the United States and other countries outside Australia. These providers apply their own contractual and security safeguards.
12. Children
The app is designed for adults preparing for the Australian citizenship test. It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has used the app and you want information about them removed, please contact us.
13. Your choices and rights
- Clear your study progress in Settings → Reset Progress, or uninstall the app to remove all local data.
- Turn off notifications in Settings or in your device settings.
- On iOS and Android, you can reset or limit analytics identifiers in your device's privacy settings.
- You can ask us to access, correct or delete information that relates to you, where the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) or another applicable law such as the GDPR gives you that right. We don't hold your name or email, so we may ask for the anonymous app user ID so we can find the right records with our providers.
14. Security
Data sent to RevenueCat and Google is encrypted in transit. Your study progress stays in the app's private storage on your device.
15. Not affiliated with the Government
This app is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Australian Government or the Department of Home Affairs. Always check official Home Affairs information about the citizenship test.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the new version here and change the effective date. Significant changes will also be highlighted in the app or in its store listing.
